The Rotary Club of Ho has honoured its promise of providing an Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for the Dodome Avexa Basic School in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.
The provision of the ICT Lab is to help shape the future of pupils in the community to enable them to fit into the digital global community.
Due to lack of ICT equipment, traditional methods were used in teaching the pupils.
In some situations, the pupils had to journey outside the community to educational institutions furnished with ICT labs to study.
The ICT Tutor, Christian Klevor, indicated that it had been difficult handling the pupils without the equipment since it would have made teaching easier to understand and make learning more fun.
“We go through the traditional method by downloading some of the things on phones and showing to them, one after the other, which is time-consuming”, he said.
Noticing the adverse effects on the education of the pupils, the Rotary Club of Ho stepped in to support the school with an ICT lab, as part of its annual flagship project.
This objective was achieved with an amount of GH₵82,000, which was raised at the Rotary presidential ball, GH₵8,000 raised from other donations and a counterpart funding of about GH₵9,000 from the community.
An existing structure was refurbished, providing a server to house 25 computers and an instructional unit to enhance the learning of ICT in the Dodome Avexa Basic School.
The President of the Rotary Club of Ho, Simon Fafali Awumey, said they decided to undertake their annual flagship project in the Dodome Avexa Basic School after a need assessment was done, and the plight of the school was identified.
He entreated the younger generation to consider ICT as a tool that would guide them to a prosperous future and contribute to the economic growth of the country.
He called on the School’s Management to adopt the best of maintenance practices, adding that his outfit would undertake periodic monitoring of the facility to ensure it is being put to good use.
The School’s Headmaster, who lamented the poor performance of his pupils in ICT, expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute to improve the performance of pupils.
