A contender for the General Secretary position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otukonor, has conceded defeat in the race.
Per the provisional results, Fifi Kwetey is in a clear lead.
Mr Kwetey in a Facebook post revealed his closest contender, Dr Boamah Otokunor had called to congratulate him.
“Very gracious of him. I had earlier told him yesterday that I was proud of his competitive campaigning and I repeated same this morning,” he wrote in the wee hours of Sunday.
Mr Kwetey pledged to work closely with all and sundry to ensure the victory of the party in the country’s next general elections.
“I reassured him of my complete readiness to work closely with him to make our party greater and stronger,” he stated.
Speaking to JoyNews after his victory at the NDC’s national delegate congress, Mr Kwetey said uniting the members of the NDC after the internal election is pivotal to the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.
As he prepares to take on his new role, from Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Mr Kwetey observed that NDC yearned for a different kind of leader and that is exactly what he will as presenting on the table.
