General-Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, says the NDC will focus its 2024 election campaign on the economy.
According to him, the ongoing economic crisis has made the economy an unavoidable campaign theme as Ghanaians will be looking out for the party with feasible solutions to rescue the nation.
He stated that his appointment as General-Secretary for the party is an opportune one taking into consideration his strong background in finance and matters of the economy.
Fifi Kwetey has served as a former Deputy Finance Minister during the erstwhile Mahama administration.
“The campaign for 2024 is largely going to be a campaign on the economy because as you know what is happening in Ghana now is all about the economy. Now if you have a General-Secretary who actually is coming from that subject area, a former Deputy Finance Minister, a man who clearly is prolific when it comes to discussing issues of the economy, a man who has got the facts, who has got the figures, and of course has got the fire to back the facts and figures, that’s a beautiful opportunity,” he said on JoyNews’ PM Express.
He added that the likely flagbearers from the NDC’s main opposition, the New Patriotic Party, were not counting on the NDC electing a financial expert to be General-Secretary, thus his appointment has indeed taken them by surprise.
He expressed his commitment to doing whatever it takes to get Ghanaians to side with the NDC come 2024.
“I told them clearly that our opponents, Bawumia and so on clearly they’re not looking forward to having a General Secretary who can be that prolific and who can set the record straight on the economy; marshal all the key powers that we have both in Parliament and outside of Parliament to gather all the party in order for us to do a brilliant job in dealing with the NPP on the matter of the economy which should be the central theme of the campaign, I mean, that is a beautiful opportunity to have,” he said.
