The search for employment will reduce should young entrepreneurs leverage the opportunities social media platforms afford.
A digital marketer, Edward Asare says this could be achieved if an individual with vital and credible information or knowledge in a particular field is willing to document them to be passed on to others at a cost.
He says content creators can take advantage of the growing e-commerce space to monetise their expertise.
Speaking on Masterclass on Joy FM, he said “If you have any form of knowledge at all, you are actually sitting on gold. You can monetise that knowledge you have by putting it on all of these e-commerce sites.”
He explained that e-commerce presents a lot of advantages since the knowledge shared could be updated as and when necessary.
If your business is not online in 2023, it does not exist – Digital marketer
The digital expert stressed that knowledge posted on these platforms does not have to be out of the ordinary, but simple tasks people might want answers to.
Highlighting the process needed to begin e-commerce, he said “all you have to do is to just get a videographer to record yourself doing what you know how to do best and put it out there.
“If you don’t get people to come to you to learn that thing you will get an organisation that would want that knowledge from you."
Also, Mr Asare said for individuals who prefer to trade physical products, social media platforms also provide a ready market for such businesses to operate.
Making reference to an individual who practices this, he said, “ I know somebody who is out of school, he does not have a job. He posts iPhone, he puts pictures there with specs and anything, and then when you order for the iPhone he buys it from somebody who is selling it and he gives it to you, and then he keeps the margin.”
He stressed that "someway somehow social media or online presence has a way of bringing you money and the moment you find yourself spending so much time there you always have to cash out.”
Again, another way to monetise social media he added was to engage in crowdfunding. He explained that there are platforms that afford people the opportunity to seek financial assistance from others to undergo surgeries and to pursue higher education programmes.
Be consistent on social media – Digital marketer tells business owners
Finally, he added that with platforms like YouTube, content creators should be more concerned about consistently uploading good video content rather than building a following.
According to the digital marketer, once a content creator is consistent, the platform recommends videos to audiences on the platform and that automatically helps in building a content creator's following.
