In a remarkable display of alumni generosity, Nkonya Senior High School (SHS) has unveiled a new girls' washroom facility, thanks to the philanthropic efforts of two former students.

Barrister Richard Kojo Acheampong, representing the 1989-year group, and his wife Joan Asare-Acheampong from the 1994-year group spearheaded the initiative, filling a crucial need within the school community.

The project, which includes a walkway connecting the new facility to the girls' dormitory block for enhanced accessibility, marks a significant enhancement to the school's infrastructure. Moreover, it signifies the enduring commitment of alumni to the betterment of their alma mater.

Notably, the construction initiative also addressed the long-pending completion of a ten-unit washroom project, initiated by the school a decade ago for the female dormitory.

Mr Acheampong, a London-based lawyer, businessman, and dedicated philanthropist, emphasised the importance of finishing what was started, ensuring that the facilities meet the highest standards of comfort and hygiene.

However, the journey to realizing this vision was not without its challenges. Mr Acheampong revealed that the total cost of the project ballooned to three hundred thousand Ghana cedis (GHS 300,000), double the initial estimate of one hundred and fifty thousand (GHS 150,000). This increase was attributed to the expansion of the project's scope, rising costs of construction materials, and unforeseen needs that emerged during the planning stages.

Despite these hurdles, the unwavering dedication of the alumni and their commitment to enhancing the educational experience for current and future students prevailed. The completion of the new washroom facility stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the enduring spirit of giving back to one's community.

Students and staff alike have expressed their gratitude for the transformative impact of the project, highlighting the newfound convenience and improved sanitation standards it brings to the school.
