Former President John Dramani Mahama has demonstrated strong support for environmental sustainability by donating GH¢50,000 to the Buzstopboys, a group dedicated to promoting clean environment in Ghana.
This contribution is earmarked to assist the group in acquiring essential tools and equipment for their Clean Ghana campaign.
Mr Mahama underscored the significance of voluntarism in maintaining urban cleanliness.
He emphasised the critical role that grassroots initiatives like the Buzstopboys play in addressing the challenges of urban waste management.
Mr Mahama pointed out that urban areas face unique difficulties due to high population and a lack of communal standards of hygiene often found in rural settings.
Reflecting on his experiences, Mr Mahama recalled the traditional practice of starting the day with cleaning chores, a routine he observed has diminished over time.
He lamented the increase in urban anonymity and its impact on civic responsibility towards cleanliness.
“When I saw you guys, young people, filling in that gap, I thought that you needed to be encouraged,” he said.
