President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to the late Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, describing him as an exceptional patriot whose distinguished service, integrity and unwavering commitment to Ghana's security and democratic governance will continue to inspire future generations.

The President made the remarks during the unveiling of a cenotaph in memory of the late Dr Omane Boamah at the Ministry of Defence following a National Interfaith Memorial Service, which had earlier been held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The memorial events brought together government officials, members of the Ghana Armed Forces, religious leaders, diplomats, family members, friends and mourners to honour the life and legacy of the former Minister for Defence, whose contributions to national service were described as enduring and exemplary.

Addressing the gathering at the Ministry of Defence, President Mahama said the occasion was not only to mourn the passing of a respected statesman but also to celebrate a life devoted to the service of the nation.

"This ceremony honours the memory of the late Honourable Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah. He served our country with distinction as Minister for Defence," the President said.

President Mahama noted that the unveiling of the cenotaph represented far more than the dedication of a memorial structure.

According to him, it serves as a permanent reminder of the ideals that defined Dr Omane Boamah's life and public service.

He said while death brings an end to earthly life, the principles by which individuals live continue to influence society long after they are gone.

"A cenotaph is more than stone and inscriptions. It is a lasting reminder that whilst life may end, the values it embodied—service, integrity, patriotism and sacrifice—must continue to inspire future generations," he stated.

The President explained that memorials of this nature preserve not only the memory of distinguished citizens but also the ideals that should guide future leaders in public service.

He urged Ghanaians to reflect on the values exemplified by Dr Omane Boamah and to strive to uphold them in their personal and professional lives.

Paying tribute to the late Defence Minister, President Mahama described Dr Omane Boamah as a humble, diligent and dedicated leader who approached every responsibility with a deep sense of patriotism.

He said throughout his tenure as Minister for Defence, Dr Omane Boamah demonstrated unwavering commitment to protecting Ghana's peace, safeguarding national security and strengthening the country's democratic institutions.

"Dr Omane Boamah served with diligence, humility and unwavering commitment to the security and stability of our Republic," President Mahama remarked.

According to the President, the late minister earned widespread respect within both the military establishment and government for his professionalism, calm leadership and commitment to duty.

President Mahama further acknowledged the significant role Dr Omane Boamah played in advancing the development of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He said the late minister worked tirelessly to strengthen the country's defence institutions while supporting policies aimed at enhancing operational readiness and maintaining national stability.

The President noted that Dr Omane Boamah's efforts also contributed to the consolidation of Ghana's democratic governance, ensuring that the country's security institutions continued to operate within the framework of constitutional democracy.

"His contributions to strengthening our armed forces and advancing Ghana's democratic governance will remain part of our national story," President Mahama emphasised.
