Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says his administration will undertake “continuous recruitment” of health workers when elected in the December polls.
Speaking at the NDC Manifesto launch in Winneba, he said his next administration would also establish a “Ghana Medical Care Trust” to support persons with chronic diseases, such as kidney failure, cancer, sickle cell, diabetes, and others.
He said health infrastructure would be expanded and he would ensure timely posting of personnel to facilities across the country.
“We are not going to wait until elections to announce that we have opened the recruitment portal…The portal will be opened and we will do continuous employment of health workers, doctors and nurses,” he stated.
Highlighting other policies, Mr Mahama pledged to restore the licenses of “wrongly collapsed” banks and financial institutions and increase local participation in the banking and financial sector.
He touched on the “No Fee Stress” arrangement for first-year students in tertiary educational institutions, explaining that the policy “will not affect internally generated funds of universities.”
“We will give the money to the Student’s Loan Trust Fund and they will pay it to the universities as a grant…not as a loan,” he stated.
The flagbearer added he would provide free tertiary education for persons with disabilities, and increase subventions to public universities to improve teaching and learning.
