The Centre for Social Democracy has raised concerns over whether President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration is adhering to the requirements of Ghana's Presidential Transition Act.
The Civil Society Organisation (CSO) has formally submitted a Right to Information (RTI) request to the Office of the Administrator-General, seeking clarification on several matters related to the transition process.
This includes whether the President and Vice President’s offices have prepared and submitted their handing-over notes as mandated by law.
The CSO's request also extends to other sectors of government. They are keen to ascertain whether all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have completed and presented their own handing-over notes, given that the Akufo-Addo administration is nearing its end.
According to the Centre, these inquiries are part of an effort to ensure a smooth and transparent transition to the next government.
In a letter viewed by myjoyonline.com, the Centre for Social Democracy cited Section 6(4) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 843), and outlined specific details sought.
They asked whether the President’s Office had compiled comprehensive handing-over notes for his entire term, and, if so, requested the submission date of these documents.
Additionally, the CSO wants to confirm whether the handing-over notes encompass activities from several key areas, including:
- The Office of the President and Vice President, as well as any agencies under their respective portfolios.
- All Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
- Regional Ministers and District Chief Executives.
As President Akufo-Addo’s government approaches its final phase, with an official handover scheduled for 7th January 2025, the Centre for Social Democracy aims to ensure that all transition requirements are fully met in accordance with the law.
