AkoFresh Food storage, a Food tech company in Ghana, has received global recognition at the 2024 Global FoodTech Award organised by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
The company received first prize for the Distribution and Delivery Category of the award during a special ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea.
AkoFresh was honoured for their climate-smart solution, a cold storage facility, to postharvest losses encountered by tomatoes and other vegetable farmers in Ghana.

The 2024 UNIDO Global FoodTech Award ceremony assembled some of the world’s young entrepreneurs who proffered innovative solutions to global food challenges.
The event aimed to select companies with innovative technologies that can address issues in the global food system such as hunger and unequal distribution, thus contributing to a sustainable food system.
This year’s theme was 'FOODTECH Innovation and ISID: Nourishing the Future.'

Chief Executive of AkoFresh, Mathias Charles Yabe, could not hide his excitement after clinching the award which adds to the numerous successes chalked under his leadership.
He indicated the award reinforces their firm commitment to resolving the 30% of postharvest losses made by smallholder farmers in Ghana.
“The 2024 UNIDO Global Call highlighted how technologies like IoT, AI, and robotics can reshape the future of food systems. It’s humbling to know that AkoFresh’s IoT-enabled solar-powered cold storage solution, designed to reduce food waste in rural farms in Ghana is part of this larger movement towards sustainable food systems,” he said.
