Electrochem Ghana has responded to claims made in The Fourth Estate's documentary "Death and Brutality – The Battle for West Africa's Largest Salt Deposit," calling the allegations false and misleading.
The company said its 41,000-acre concession was legally ratified by Parliament and emphasised strict adherence to regulations. Electrochem rejected accusations of restricted fishing access, highlighting their restoration of the Songor Lagoon, which supports over 400 fishermen.
Addressing claims of brutality and human rights abuses, Electrochem dismissed incidents as misrepresented or baseless and reiterated their commitment to community engagement.
Initiatives like the Community Pan Initiative and Tributer Scheme were cited, empowering locals through salt production and generating significant economic benefits.
Electrochem emphasised its financial contributions, including over GHȼ 3.4 million in royalties and GHȼ 2.7 million in ground rent from 2021 to 2024. The company affirmed its dedication to transparency, sustainable development, and fostering livelihoods within the Ada Traditional Area.
