The Minority has refuted claims by President John Dramani Mahama that the Akufo-Addo administration had no dedicated source of funding for the Agenda 111 hospital projects.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, March 3, former Minister for Finance Dr Mohammed Amin Adam insisted that the projects were well-funded through various government sources.
Dr Amin Adam detailed the progress of the initiative as of December 31, 2024, highlighting the level of completion across multiple sites.
“Progress on completion of civil works was as follows: 37 sites had achieved 70% completion and above, 28 sites were between 50% and 70% completion, while 36 sites had achieved below 50% completion,” he disclosed.
He further noted that three district hospitals had been fully completed, equipped, and inaugurated on December 5, 2024.
These include the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipal Hospital at Trede, the Oforikrom Municipal Hospital at Kokoben, and the Ahanta West Municipal Hospital at Bokro.
“These projects were not abandoned, and significant strides were made towards their completion before the change in government,” he added.
Dr Amin Adam also rejected Mahama’s claims of financial uncertainty regarding the projects, insisting that there were dedicated funding sources.
“We had dedicated sources of funding for these projects from the Direct Government of Ghana (GoG) budgetary allocation and the Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA) Capex from oil revenues.
As of December 31, 2024, the total outstanding amount needed to complete all the district hospitals and the zonal psychiatric hospitals was $1.3 billion,” he clarified.
