African and International Relations analyst, Nana Yaw Mireku, has highlighted the importance of Ghana positioning itself as a diplomatic bridge in global conflicts, noting that neutrality and mediation serve both moral and economic interests.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on Tuesday, June 24, Mr Mireku said that nations in the Global South are uniquely placed to act as intermediaries in moments of international tension and must embrace that role for the greater good.
“I think that when these kinds of conflicts occur, countries in the Global South are in a better place to play an intermediary or mediatory role not to entangle or take a position,” he said.
He stressed that such a posture is in Ghana’s national interest, particularly given the country’s exposure to global economic disruptions.
“At the end of the day, it’s always in our interest to play this intermediary role and see that the global architecture is peaceful,” he added.
Mr Mireku argued that promoting global stability should be viewed as a strategic economic priority for Ghana, not merely a foreign policy talking point.
“Because when it is that way, it supports global trade, and it trickles down to smaller economies like Ghana,” he concluded.
