Starting next academic year, all basic and junior high schools in the Greater Accra Region will be required to teach Ga and Dangme as compulsory subjects.

The directive, issued by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, aims to preserve the culture, history, and traditions of the Ga-Dangme people.

Speaking on the initiative, the King emphasized that it goes beyond language instruction, serving as a way to uphold indigenous values and identity.

“We are not sacking anyone from our land; we love everyone, but we want to be respected and duly honoured,” he said.

“The Greater Accra Region has successfully remained the country’s capital because of our loving nature, but that should not translate into disrespect. Our traditions and customs must be upheld,” he added.
