Former NEIP CEO, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has dismissed as false and misleading claims circulating on social media that he was arrested or detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over alleged sale of foreign scholarships.
In a statement issued on February 5, Nkansah said the publication by one Dzifa Gunu on Facebook was untrue and should be disregarded.
According to Nkansah, he was never “picked up” by the NIB, contrary to the claims made online.
He explained that the engagement with the intelligence agency followed an official directive and was conducted in a lawful and transparent manner.
The statement said that on February 3, the Secretary to the President, Mr Callistus Mahama, issued a communiqué to the Director-General of the NIB, requesting an investigation into an allegation purportedly made by Nkansah on Sompa Radio.
The allegation suggested that an individual had paid money to secure a scholarship to study abroad, and the NIB was tasked to submit its findings.
Nkansah said that pursuant to the directive, he was invited by the NIB to a meeting at 10:00 am on February 5 to assist with the investigations.
He stated that he voluntarily honoured the invitation and appeared at the NIB offices in the company of his legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah Esq., Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, where he fully cooperated with investigators.
He stressed that at the conclusion of the engagement, he was not charged with any offence, as he was only assisting with ongoing investigations.
Mr Nkansah therefore urged the public and media organisations to disregard the false publication and refrain from circulating misinformation.
