Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Awentami Afoko is expected to submit his completed nomination forms for the party’s National Chairmanship race on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Mr Afoko is expected at the NPP’s headquarters in Accra to formally submit his completed nomination documents, following the collection of nomination forms when the filing process opened on August 18.
His filing comes within the party’s extended nomination window. The NPP National Officers Elections Committee has extended the deadline for the submission of completed forms from August 27 to August 29, following what the party described as strong interest from aspirants seeking various national positions.
Mr Afoko publicly declared his intention to contest the National Chairmanship race in July 2026.
He is campaigning on what he describes as the “3R Agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture, which focuses on healing internal divisions, rebuilding the party’s structures and positioning the NPP to regain power in the 2028 general election.
His campaign has included engagements with delegates and grassroots supporters across several regions, where he has emphasised reconciliation and unity as key to the party’s efforts to recover from its defeat in the 2024 general election.
Mr Afoko’s return to the National Chairmanship contest also carries significance, having previously served as NPP National Chairman before his removal from the position following a prolonged internal dispute within the party.
With the submission of his nomination forms, Mr Afoko will formally proceed to the next stages of the NPP’s national officers election process.
Vetting of aspirants is scheduled for August 31 to September 3, with the results expected on September 5. Appeals will be heard from September 6 to 7, while the national delegates are scheduled to vote on October 3, 2026.
