Veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Nortey has advised all actors to have at least some formal education in the acting business before involving themselves full time.
She expressed her concern about how “some people” are gradually undermining the noble profession with the perception that there is no need for a formal education.
According to her, “acting is a bit easier and lucrative, but it is not something one could do for the rest of her life. Acting is seasoned, for about ten to fifteen years one will still not be the strong person as she used to be”.
Grace Nortey disclosed this in an interview with Selasie Ibrahim on ‘Smart People’ on GTV while describing how some actors become hopeless and jobless when they stop acting.
She explained that acting can be a hobby but one needs formal education for a better experience. She added,“you cannot get up one day and say I am a star. It’s impossible”.
She used the opportunity to advise women in the movie industry to work hard and respect themselves.
The veteran actress also advised that those who are married should discuss the scripts they get with their husbands. “Whatever roles you are going to play, let your husband know. Tell your husband the whole show”, she added.
Grace Nortey, who has been off the scene for a while now, said old age and ill-health have caught up with her and they have slowed her down.
