The Australia High Commission has joined Ghana’s Ministry of Education and other stakeholders of the Ducere Africa Children’s Story program to launch the maiden edition of the Ghanaian collection of African Children’s Stories – stories inspired by traditional folklore and written by students from selected basic schools in Ghana.
The Ducere Africa Children’s Story program is a global initiative championed by the Ducere Foundation, an Australian-based non-government organization. The program aims to inspire and empower basic-level school children to write creatively and share their life experiences, as well as to capture the stories told them by their elders and to preserve oral history.
The first set of stories, collected from five basic schools – namely Mamprobi North ‘4’ primary, Children of The Light primary, Mamprobi South ‘1’ primary and Immaculate Conception R/C Basic – have been compiled into five exciting books which will be distributed to a number of basic schools as supplementary reading material.
The Australian High Commission funded the Ducere Africa Children’s Story program under its Direct Aid Program (DAP).
“We at the Australian High Commission are excited to be part of the Ducere Africa Children’s Story program – a program that gives us yet another opportunity to support education in Ghana.
“We celebrate these young writers and encourage them to build on this achievement, and we celebrate the teachers who mentored them to produce these impressive outcomes,” said Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Joanna Adamson.
