Ghana is to appeal against Andre Dede Ayew's one-match suspension that rules the young talent out of the Black Stars World Cup quarter-finals tie against Uruguay on Friday.
Andre was last Saturday penalised by Hungarian referee Viktor Kassai during time added on after 90 minutes, but Ghana officials have hinted they would appeal against the decision for what appeared an innocuous incident.
Ghana football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi told the Daily Graphic in Rustenburg after the victorious game against the U.S. that the incident was an innocuous one that didn't deserve the yellow card to the young player.
The FA president reasoned how someone penalised for alleged misconduct in the same game could be voted man-of-the-match, and that could form solid grounds to file an appeal.
Dede Ayew, who had his first caution in Ghana's last group match against Germany will miss Friday's tie against Uraguay if the referee’s decision is upheld by FIFA’s World Cup Disciplinary Committee.
The-young Ghanaian, who has emerged a colossus and a driving force in the Stars' set-up, was voted man-of-the-match despite the controversial caution.
His absence from Friday's match will be a big blow to a team needing the vibrant fighting spirit to push the team to scale the Uruguayan hurdle.
Coach Milovan Rajevac has acknowledged the handicap but hopes to work hard during the rest to come up with for a replacement that should give the team at least some semblance of Dede's buoyant qualities.
