The pro-government group, Alliance For Accountable Opposition (AFRO), is in turmoil as the convener has quit the less-than-one-month-old group. Benjamin Akyena Brentuo said the group has lost its credibility because the integrity of some of its leading member has been called into question. His decision followed allegations that he failed to account for monies given to him for the work of the organization by National Security. Lord Koranteng Hammah, the national Co-ordinator of AFRO, and Fortunate Anuga, AFRO Press Secretary, last week accused Mr Brantuo of using the group’s name to obtain money for his personal use. They advised the media to desist from dealing with him in the name of the group. But Mr Brantuo told Joy News’ Sammy Darko the development was unfortunate and regrettable. He said the conduct of some of his colleague leading members of AFRO smacked of mischief and indicated that the formation of the group was motivated by self-seeking interests. “You make an allegation of financial malfeasance and you’ve not put a single evidence to it then one is tempted to believe that your focus was just to destroy the group and make sure we will not be intact to fight for what believed in.” Mr Brantuo added that “if indeed you a member of the NDC, you didn’t have to go on radio, make unsubstantiated allegations against the National security and the Office of the President.” He accused his colleagues of having been influenced to scuttle the group.
