The Ministry of Tourism is to beef up its Inspectorate Directorate to position it to check on Hoteliers.
According to the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kobby Acheampong, the government is committed to ensuring that policies are in place to streamline the operations of Hoteliers.
He deplored players in the hospitality industry to ensure their day-to-day activities meet laid down standards.
Speaking to Asempa News on how the ministry was helping to ensure that hoteliers played their expected roles, more so with the onset of Ghana's new oil business which is attracting a lot of investors, the deputy minister also urged hoteliers to train their staff regularly.
Mr. Acheampong also revealed that his ministry was not happy with the repeal of LI1817 which will make it compulsory for hoteliers to also pay duties on materials they import for their activities. He indicated that the ministry had appealed through parliament and he hoped Parliament will consider the ministry’s appeal.
Meanwhile the Hoteliers Association of Ghana says it is in partnership with the Ghana Tourist Board to put up a team to work hand-in-hand to develop programmes to help hoteliers deliver flawless services in the country.
Currently, there is no Operational Service Standards which should serve as guideline to service providers to deliver excellently in the hospitality industry.
President of the Hoteliers Association, Herbert Acquaye disclosed this in an interview with Asempa News on the preparedness of the hospitality industry as the country’s oil and gas industry rolls out shortly.
He said measures are in place to check hotels and their activities.
