Black Maidens  came from behind against all odds to surprise title contenders United States of America 2-1 in their second group D match of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan.

Ghana put up a spirited second half display to upstage the Americans at the King Abdullah II International Stadium on Tuesday to revive their hopes of reaching the quarter-final of the competition.

Skipper Sandra Owusu Ansah converted a late penalty to hand Ghana all spoils.

The Americans, high on confidence following a 6-1 thumping of Paraguay in the first match, started brightly  and  it was no surprise when they opened the scoring in the first five minutes through BJ Snow.

Ghana rarely threatened during a forgettable first half but it was a different story after the break when they began to lay siege to the American goal.

Rafia Kulchirie and Sandra Owusu-Ansah forced USA goalie into making terrific saves. But the Maidens were rewarded with a goal as Gifty Acheampong, unmarked at the far post, connected a hanging cross from  Adizatu Mustapha.

Adotey’s side remained dangerous after finding the equalizing goal and it was no more than they deserved when they snatched a winner with six minutes remaining with the goal coming from the penalty spot through Owusu-Ansah after another Mustapha cross was handled.
