Jose Mourinho defended Manchester United’s approach during their goalless draw against Liverpool and said that Jurgen Klopp’s side are “not the last wonder of the world”.
The Portuguese manager set up a defensive-minded team, which only had 35 per cent possession, as the sides played out a match with very few clear-cut chances.
And after the game Mourinho was unrepentant, telling Sky: “I think it was a very difficult game. It was more difficult for them than us. We had control for long periods.
“That was the game we planned. We knew they would press high and we knew it would be hard for them to score.
Mourinho was also disappointed that his side didn’t make more of their opportunities, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasting the best chance when he headed a superb Paul Pogba cross harmlessly wide.
“We did well tactically in the defence, we should have had a little bit more in attack, we had a big chance with Zlatan.
“They are a good team but they are not the last wonder of the world like you say they are.”
