Barcelona striker Luis Suarez revealed his desire to remain with the club until the day he retires as he collected the second prestigious European Golden Shoe award of his career on Thursday afternoon. He also spoke of his extreme gratitude to his Camp Nou team-mates.
Suarez scored 40 La Liga goals for Barça last season to finish as the top scorer in all of Europe and take the accolade, just as he did after 31 Premier League goals in a stunning 2013/14 campaign for former side Liverpool.
The season that Suarez took the Golden Shoe for the first time actually marks the only occasion in the last nine seasons it has gone to a player for goals not scored in La Liga, with Diego Forlan, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi scooping all the others since 2008.
Suarez was handed the trophy by his own two young children, Delfina and Benjamin.
"Thank you to FC Barcelona for giving me the chance to live this dream," the Uruguayan said at the ”‹presentation event held in the city.
"I never imagined I'd be top scorer when I came to Barça, all I wanted was to win the Champions League. But I would never have won this award without my team-mates. With their help, everything is so much easier," he added.
"I hope I can finish my career at Barça."
Hotly tipped to rival Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2016 Ballon d'Or at the annual FIFA gala in January, Suarez also expressed his hope to see either 'MSN' partners Messi or Neymar win if he himself cannot do it.
