Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is looking increasingly likely to leave the club next summer following reports that MLS side LA Galaxy are set to begin talks with the striker.
The Englishman has appeared to become unsettled at Old Trafford due to the lack of first-team football under manager Jose Mourinho, and has been rumoured to be seeking a new club away from the Premier League, with some reports indicating that China could be his new destination.
However, the 31-year-old is wanted by former MLS champions LA Galaxy, with the club looking to secure a deal for England's leading goal-scorer for the start of the 2017/18 campaign.
The news comes after the American outfit's current star Englishman Steven Gerrard has hinted that he could return to England to begin his coaching career at the end of the season, with Galaxy hoping that Rooney can replace the former Liverpool captain as one of two players who can break the wage cap in their team.
In terms of a possible contract, Galaxy have reportedly already enquired as to how much Rooney would cost, and looks to be a lot more than the £4m-per-year that Gerrard currently earns across the pond.
The five-time Premier League winner is still keen to fight for his place at the club he has served for more than a decade, however his fate became even clearer as Mourinho suggested that his captain may have to leave if he wants more first-team action.
Alongside Galaxy, Serie A giants Inter Milan are also interested in acquiring the services of Rooney following their earlier club takeover from a Chinese consortium, however it is unlikely he would want to risk potentially come up against his former club in a European competition.
