Former FIFA referee and assistant coach of Amidaus professional, Mrs. Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo says it is unfortunate there is no Ghanaian female referee in the 25 named for the 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
According to her, there is no special criteria for appointing female referees for competitions but instead self-development, encouragement and determination pushed her to the highest level in refereeing.
The Tema based trainer cited Theresa Beremansu and Christine Zigah as some of the intelligent referees who deserve to be appointed and cannot fathom what the set back is.
“I believe as our ladies are given the nod to officiate the game locally, they must endeavor to push themselves higher.”
“This unpleasant news should propel our female referees to do better to be appointed to officiate the next edition of the Women Championship to be hosted on our home soil.”
“I wish to plead with the referee appointments committee to give our female referees more games to officiate so it will toughen them and provide the exposure they need, even in lower division games.”
No Ghanaian referee was named in the list for the tournament.
