Supervisors and field officers employed in the recent 2010 National Population and Housing Census are planning to hit the streets in a demonstration against delayed payment of allowances.
The officers who were engaged in the mop-up and damage control exercises say they are displeased with the Ghana Statistical Service for refusal to honour payment of outstanding allowance.
The Census Secretariat sought the additional hands in the enumeration of households which had not been captured in the actual census.
Enumerators and supervisors who opted to participate in the mop up are worried about delayed payment of allowances.
Spokesperson for the aggrieved personnel in the Ashanti region, Evans Nunoo says the over four-month delay is unacceptable.
“We’ve contacted the regional office several times to no avail, so if they don’t give us our money, we are embarking on a demonstration probably next week to demand what rightfully belongs to us”, he told Luv FM.
Officials of the Ghana Statistical Service however say they are on course to effect payment of allowances.
Ashanti Regional Statistician, Emmanuel George Osei, told Luv FM there are arrangements to effect payment, though he will not give an effective date.
