A 63-year-old woman, Henrietta Quaye, has been arrested by the police for attempting to smuggle a chemical suspected to be acid in a fruit drink container to an inmate of a cell. Also found with her was a polythene bag containing gari and a chisel wrapped with a GH¢50 note. Police said they believe that the items found were meant to aid the escape of a suspect from cell. Briefing the press, Greater Accra Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati, said at about 4.30 pm on Thursday, March 24, the suspect visited her son, Daniel Doku who was being detained at the Accra Central Police Station for alleged robbery. She went to the charge office with the polythene bag containing the items which she claimed was given to her by some two boys to be given to a Nigerian cell inmate by name William Ikogo. However, she was unable to identify the boys. Supt. Adufati said the duty officer on inspecting the contents of the bag found a chisel hidden in the gari. This aroused the suspicion of the officer to open the pack of fruit drink which was found to contain acid. He said Ikogo denied knowing Madam Quaye nor what she was talking about.
