An official of the Breman Asikuma District Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Anthony Amoakwa, is standing trial for allegedly collecting double pay.Amoakwa, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing, has been granted a 10 million cedi bail with one surety by a circuit court at Agona Swedru for collecting salary from his former employers for work he had not done.
The prosecution told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wilson that Amoakwa, who was a pupil teacher at the Breman Abaokoa Catholic Kindergarten in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, left the job and joined the NADMO in August 2002.
He said during the period his salary from the Ghana Education Service between August and October 2002 continued to go into his accounts at the Breman Asikuma branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank, which the accused enjoyed.
In January 2003, Amoakwa again received an accumulated salary for August to December 2002 from NADMO at the Brakwa-Breman Rural Bank at Asikuma.
The prosecution said the Office of Human Right Heritage in Accra received information about the issue and wrote to the Breman Asikuma Police Command for investigation during which the accused was arrested.
The prosecution told the court that the accused said in his statement that he worked for the GES in August to September 2002 but confessed that he however did not work for the month of October.Amoakwa, will re-appear on July 24.Source: GNA
