A post mortem which was conducted by the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on the brother and sister who died mysteriously at Alajo in Accra a week ago has revealed that they died of typhoid fever.
Typhoid fever is a life threatening bacterial infection often transmitted by contaminated water, food or milk.
Once the bacteria gets in the blood stream, it quickly multiplies causing symptoms to show fast.
Edward Adjei, father of the children said that the post mortem was carried out last Friday.
Mr Adjei who works with the University of Ghana Medical School disclosed that the children will be buried on Friday.
On Sunday, July 8, Ernest Marfo, 13 and Esther Marfo, 10, both pupils pf Kpehe Roman Catholic Basic School died shortly after complaining of sudden illness.
Ernest was said to have complained of stomach ache in the afternoon of Sunday and was taken to the Ridge Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
While at the hospital, Esther who was in the company of family members who went to the hospital with Ernest suddenly complained of discomfort, weakness and dizziness.
Apparently worried about the situation, the family took her to a prayer camp for prayers after which she was taken home but died later in the day.
The message about Esther’s death reached the rest of the family at the Ridge Hospital while they were preparing to convey Ernest’s body to Korle Bu Hospital mortuary, according to Leticia Adu, mother of the children.
