Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah maintains only the best performing players will earn invitations into the Black Stars team.
Appiah, in his second stint as coach, has begun what he termed “building a team for the future”, and recorded an emphatic 5-0 win over Ethiopia in his first real test, a 2019 Afcon qualifying game on Sunday.
Reflecting on the game, the 56-year-old described it as “a great performance from the players” but remarked that “more players will come into the team.”
"We have to look at the long-term goal and the immediate goal, and my ambition is to build a team for the future. So more players will have to come in so we have a formidable squad,” Appiah explained.
The coach named 10 debutants in his first call-up and went on to hand three of them – Lumor Agbenyenu, Thomas Agyepong and Raphael Dwamena, starting berths. The trio of players excelled and lasted the entire duration, with Dwamena bagging a brace on the night.
Kwesi Appiah will lead the Black Stars to the United States where they will feature in two international friendly matches against Mexico and the US on 28 June and 1 July respectively.
