Budding artiste Kurl Songs insists the lyrics to his hit single ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ which featured rapper Sarkodie are not derogatory in any way.
The controversial track generated a lot of public criticism and a lawsuit threat from the Krobo Youth Council over defamation.
Some months ago, Sarkodie, was threatened with a legal suit over sections of the song deemed to have offended the sensibilities of the Krobos ethnic group.
According to the Kloma Hengme Association, a line in the song attributed to Sarkodie translates as “A noble Krobo lady with beads around her waist who has been cursed by Okomfo Anokye with promiscuity” is discriminatory and demeans the people of Krobo.
But the winner of last year’s MTN Hitmaker reality show told speaking to Hitz@1 that the lyrics of the song were rather praising the Jennifer Lomotey character who was a Krobo and not defaming her as is being proclaimed.
“If you listen to the song very carefully you’ll find out that the song actually talks positively not negatively, so we didn’t see anything wrong with it.
"At the end of the day, it was just a statement but then we should also think about the content of the song,” he told Hitz FM’s, Daniella Adu Asare.
Jennifer Lomotey is a good girl and you can’t go wrong with a woman who hassles like a man, cooks well and has sex appeal; that’s all we were trying to say,” he said.
Kurl Songs, under the tutelage of a renowned producer, is set to release songs with other artistes like rapper Sarkodie once again, Stonebwoy, Ebony and others.
