Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has suggested for the government to consider exporting surplus labour such as nurses and drivers to other countries.

Speaking at a seminar on Friday ahead of the International Youth Day Saturday, the former Finance Minister said the time had come for Ghana to send some of its skilled unemployed youth overseas in exchange for money.

"We have to train our nurses for the international level,” he said.

He added that many countries are in search of skilled Ghanaians to employ them.

Mr. Maafo said the export will give many unemployed youth an employment opportunity.

At least over 200 trainee nurses besieged the premises of the Health Ministry to register their unemployed status on March 15. 

The chanting nurses who came from different parts of the country to picket, vowed to remain at the premises of the Ministry until the ban on employment is lifted.

Also, unemployed graduate teachers demonstrated Tuesday, 8 August 2017 on the streets of Accra in protest against government’s failure to provide them jobs.

Meanwhile, the Senior Minister has urged Ghanaian youth to “think outside the box” and open themselves up to different opportunities.

He said there are opportunities abroad for cultural groups to take advantage of. This, he said will bolster Ghana's tourism industry if it is treated with the seriousness it deserves.
