The Managing Director of the Bonzali Rural Bank in the Northern Region has assured that his outfit is ready to partner government in its development agenda for the Northern Region.

Paul Atsu Fiawoo said the bank has the capacity to mobilise the people and offer the necessary support through funding for projects.

The Managing Director said this at the send-off party for the immediate past board chairman of the bank held in Tamale over the week end.

At the bank’s annual general meeting held recently, the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed told customers of the bank that government was going to partner the Bonzali Rural bank to implement some of government’s policies to reduce poverty in the area.

Mr. Atsu Fiawoo said his outfit has taken up the challenge because the proposal was a laudable idea and as a bank their aim was not only to make profit but also to help communities they work in.

He commended the past board chairman for the stability he and his colleagues had brought into the operations of the Bonzali Rural Bank.

He said before Alhaji M. S Abdulai and his colleagues took over, the bank consistently had troubles, compelling the Bank of Ghana to intervene almost every time to settle dispute between management and board.

But Mr Atsu Fiawoo was happy about the stability that has been established over the last 12 years and could not hide his appreciation for the contribution Alhaji Abdullah brought on board.

“In the life of the bank there have been lots of problems until the life patron constituted this board with Alhaji M.S Abdullah as chair for the past twelve years. Since then, the crop of directors have brought stability and growth to the bank” he stated

 Mr Atsu Fiawoo said the regular intervention by the Bank of Ghana has also come to an end, adding that going forward they believe the bank would continue to grow from strength to strength.  

The bank currently has eight operational branches and two micro finance centers.

The Bank Manager said it is their hope to increase in terms of volume and impact especially in communities they serve.

According to him, management of the bank is currently considering the possibility of opening more branches in the Salaga and Bimbila in the Northern Region.
