A month after their tragic accident on the Nkawkaw road, Asante Kotoko defender Awal Mohammed is focused on not letting the past hinder their chance of success this season.
Kotoko returned to the pitch 25 days after the incident in their hard fought 1-1 draw with rivals Hearts of Oak.
The Porcupine Warriors fought from behind to draw with the Phobians in a game Awal featured for the entire duration.
The towering defender has gone ahead to feature in the local Black Stars “B” 2-2 draw with Burkina in Ouagadougou and for him, it is essential to keep looking forward.
“What happened to us, no matter what, we must put it behind us because football is our job,” he told Asempa Sports.
“We have no other job apart from football, even if we do, it is the work we started with so we must move on from what happened.
God has his plans and knows what is best for his children.”
“The incident has already happened so we must focus because we have no option than still be out there on the field. That is why you can see that we came and played a competitive match against our rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and since have been able to play that game we are ready for anything.”

The Ghana international is still optimistic Kotoko can clinch a title come the end of the season. Kotoko face Division One campaigners Nea Salamina in the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup and for Awal, the team has a title in sight.
“As for Kotoko, we have to take one trophy at least. We have our eyes set on all the trophies but we need to take at least one to Kumasi.
Right now I cannot say whether the league or the FA cup is assured. When you look at where we are in the FA cup, we are in the quarter finals, then we go to the semi-finals.
You might say we will play in the finals but it is not guaranteed yet”.
Awal featured for Ghana in the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
