The Reverend Augustus Harry Awortwi, a retired Director of Education and a Physicist has called on science teachers to reactivate and form science clubs in their schools.
He observed that such clubs aided the teaching and learning of the subject.
Reverend Awortwi said this at a capacity workshop for 150 selected Science and Mathematics teachers in the Volta Region.
The workshop, which was organized by the Ghana Education Service, was for the participants to deliberate on how to teach Science and Mathematics subjects for the easy understanding of students.
Reverend Awortwi noted that science clubs enable students to solve problems practically and enhance students' capability of understanding the theory aspect of the subjects.
He said it removes the phobia most students attach to the subjects and enables students to solve minor industrial problems they face at home easily with little or no assistance from technicians.
Reverend Awortwi said the establishment of the clubs was the secret of many industrialized countries and appealed to stakeholders to support their establishment in basic and second cycle institutions in the country.
He urged parents to encourage their children to join the clubs and support them.
Reverend Awortwi advised Parents Teachers Associations to also motivate science teachers to deliver their best adding that it is the base for all other subjects.
