A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alfred Agbesi Woyome has launched a scathing attack on the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for calling him a thief. The NDC apparatchik described the Assin MP as an ‘ignoramus’ who just talks haphazardly without recourse to any facts or evidence.Alfred Woyome went to court to redeem what he says were losses he suffered after the erstwhile Kufuor administration denied a bid he won to renovate various stadia prior to the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.A High Court in 2010 ordered the State to pay an amount of GH¢42 million in judgment debt to Mr. Woyome over what he describes as the illegal termination of his contract. But the New Patriotic Party's Kennedy Agyapong says he cannot fathom why the State would pay Mr Woyome such a huge amount of money with no work done.He alleged that some officials at the Attorney General’s Department (AG) condoned and connived with the NDC guru by deliberately refusing to defend the state in court to enable Mr. Woyome win the case.Mr. Agyapong has vowed to expose a grand plan by the NDC, spearheaded by Alfred Woyome, he claimed, to loot the State of its resources. However speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Alfred Woyome challenged Kennedy Agyapong to prove his claims with proper evidence and ‘stop asking childish questions’.He noted that the utterances and conduct of the Assin MP brings the name and status of Parliament into disrepute.“The key players are not talking because it is the truth. Why is this man (Kennedy who cannot even speak properly in Parliament the one talking?" he quizzed.Alfred Woyome said he would sue Kennedy Agyapong to substantiate his claims and also for denigrating his person.Commenting on the issue under controversy, Mr. Woyome said he deserved more than the GH¢42 million awarded him by the competent court of jurisdiction.
The NDC financier explained that he lost 22 million Euros in a compromise reached between himself and the Attorney General’s Department. The former Vice Honorary Consul of Austria debunked claims that he was compensated because the NDC is in power. On the contrary, Mr. Woyome said the AG’s department led by Betty Mould Iddrisu at the time rather saved money for the country through the negotiations.“I went to court to win my case and I will be in court to win all cases. Betty Mould Iddrisu saved Ghana 22 million euros from me" he said.Alfred Woyome stated emphatically that he would never engage in any diabolic act that would bring the Mills-led administration into disrepute.
