Several parts of the country have been flooded after heavy rains hit the country Friday.
Many people who left their homes early for work have been stuck in traffic as the flood waters have taken over the streets and some major roads.
Joy News’ Erastus Asare Donkor reports from the capital of the Ashanti Region, Kumasi, that people have either climbed to the top of their buildings or moved to higher grounds for safety as their homes have been flooded.
A resident feared that children could drown if care is not taken as many drains have been filled with flood waters.

Floods submerge vehicles in Accra

Choked drains have been blamed for the unexpected floods

The floods in Kumasi have made some roads unmotorable

“When the clouds gather we too we make sure that we put our things in order,” another resident told the reporter.
The situation is not different in as Accra as areas such as Shiashie, parts of Legon, Nungua and Kaneshie have all been submerged as a result of the cloudburst.
There is heavy vehicular traffic on some major routes leading to the business district as traffic lights have ceased to function. A number of crashes have also been recorded on the Accra-Tema motorway causing slow movement of vehicles on the already busy road.

A resident of Kaneshie who called into the Super Morning Show reported of “travelers folding their clothes up to their knees as the whole ground [at the lorry station] is flooded.”
