The youth have been called on to take inspiration from the "Big Six" who used their youthful era to champion the nation’s political cause and gained independence for the country.
The youth today is selfish and materialistic and not nationalistic to the cause of the country, hence
they runaway to other countries in search for greener pastures while others also see nationalism as second to politics.
These were some of the views from participants at a two-day forum organised for 70 youth in the Upper West Region in Wa, which was on the theme: "Responsible youth -A partner in socio-economic development".
The contributors at the forum, organized by Konrad Adenauer Foundation in conjunction with a Tamale pastoral group, TEPPCON, urged the government to harness local resources to promote socio-economic development of the youth and equip them with vocational skills to contribute their quota to the national economy.
They observed that the youth were more interested in politics than culture and religion and urged them to be wise in their thinking to bring sanity to politics and should not make it to look like it was dirty.
Some of the participants, who were Child-Counseling Desk Officers of the Ghana Education Service, noted that there was a gap in the upbringing of the youth at home and school due to inadequate counseling.
This situation, they said made the youth to misdirect their energies and mindsets to cause confusion and destruction on the least provocation.
The contributors urged the youth to use their heads to think properly, their hearts to show loyalty to God and their country, their hands to work well and to ensure that they lived healthy lives to work for the country.
They urged political parties to be development-oriented and come out with new development agenda for the three Northern Regions to help the youth there to develop entrepreneurial skills to complement government's efforts.
