At least four customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) reportedly collapsed Wednesday after spending hours in the sweltering heat trying to purchase power.
Myjoyonline.com has learnt the men were part of hundreds of others who thronged the ECG Project office near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra, to have their prepaid cards replaced to enable them buy power.
“They fell one after the other and were rushed to the nearest hospital,” a man who was also in the queue said.
ECG customers in major parts of Accra have been struggling to purchase power for days without success.

Officials of the nation’s power distributor have blamed the problem on technical hitches their system is facing.
The areas affected include Dansoman, Korle Bu, Achimota and Kaneshie in Accra.
Long queues have been forming at ECG offices in Accra since the start of the problem last Friday.
A man who went to the Avenor office at 8am over the issue had his prepaid card replaced at 10 pm.
“I couldn’t afford to sit down because of the nature of the queue," he told Myjoyonline.com, adding "someone could take your position if you let down your guard.”
But four other customers were not lucky as they fell unconscious while standing in the queue and were rushed to a hospital, he said.
Meanwhile, General Manager of ECG Revenue Protection, David Asamoah has assured customers of an immediate resolution of the matter.
He told Joy News' AM Show Thursday the engineers at ECG have the issue “under control.”
