Pupils of Afuaman Municipal Assembly Basic School are beaming with smiles after their dilapidated kindergarten block was refurbished by the Victoria Michaels foundation.
The project was done under its flagship Education Project, the Africa Literacy Development Initiative (ALDI).
ALDI is an interventional launch pad initiative spearheaded by international model and actress, Victoria Michaels’ foundation. It is aimed at curbing illiteracy in rural areas.

Prior to the foundation's intervention, the school located at Afuaman-Manhean, a deprived community in the Ga-West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, lacked basic learning materials.
Apart from the challenges with their Junior High School (JHS) block, the kindergarten block was also in a deplorable state.

The refurbished block include a resourced library, reading room, two classrooms and learning aids.
The attendees of the ceremony included Chief of Afuaman, Nii Afua VII, the Queenmother of the community, Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adu-Twum, some celebrities and a host of other dignitaries.

In an interview with Hitz FM’s Noella Kharyne Yalley, the model whose of Ghanaian and Nigerian descent disclosed why she decided to embark on the project, urging her colleagues to undertake other educational projects.

“After our survey, we realized that Afuaman basic school had the potential to do better than they’ve done in the past. They lacked a library, their classrooms were dilapidated, and it touched our hearts. And knowing that they could do better we decided to help them,” she said.

The community is excited after the project was completed.
“We believe that what we’ve done here, will actually go a long way to make these kids better than they already are because they are the future leaders of tomorrow. So that’s why we chose this school and we’re very excited that we put a smile on their face.”
