Hollywood star, Boris Kodjoe and his family have made an emotional visit to the Cape Coast Castle.
The US-based family visited the historic castle in Cape Coast over the weekend to get acquainted with history of the slave trade – one of the darkest periods of human history.

The Holywood star, who is of Ghanaian descent, arrived in Ghana on December 31, 2017 with his family to host the 2018 edition of the CAF Awards which came off at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Thursday, January 4.
Boris Kodjoe arrived in Ghana with his beautiful Holywood star actress, Nicole Ari Parker and their three kids - Sophie Tei Naaki Lee Kodjoe, Nicolas Neruda Kodjoe. Boris and Nicole tied the knot in 2005.

After visiting the castle, which was constructed in 1653, Boris and his wife shared photos of their experience on Instagram.
He said: “Remembering and honoring those whose last experience in their homeland was one of misery and despair before their final departure through this very door of no return. #CapeCoast #Elmina #TeachYourChildren”

His wife, on the other hand, said: “Today my heart pounded as I stood in front of one of the two small windows...the only shaft of light..the only brief gust of wind inside the small female dungeon at #CapeCoastCastle. The spot that hundreds of shackled women surrounded by their dying sisters and children were forced in desperation to fight for... beg for..die for.
A brief moment in the sun.
A long visit to #CapeCoastCastle and #ElminaCastle was what I needed Sophie and Nicolas to experience. To see. To listen. To understand.
They are two of the last remaining sites along the GoldCoast that bear witness to over 300 years of the brutality and horrors of the slave trade.

“We saw the powerful Nkyinkyim installation by artist Kwame Akoto-Bamfo depicting in terracotta the faces of people enslaved here.
We walked thru the Door of No Return, following the path our ancestors took as they boarded ships.
Then our guide #MrBlankson turned us around and we went back thru the same door...symbolizing our return.
When we arrived at #ElminaCastle and Sophie saw the tiny door she had only read about..We stood in silence and then we prayed. 🇬🇠Namanom yÉ› hyÉ› him É›nyimnyam, yÉ› da hom ase dÉ› homdze bin aba fie.🇬ðŸ‡Â
Ancestors we honor you. We thank you for bringing us home.”
