Barclays Bank Ghana is expanding its frontiers to meet the educational needs of needy but brilliant students in some selected universities across the country.
As part of the bank's shared growth agenda initiative, it has awarded scholarships to 11 students of the Presbyterian University college, Ghana.
The award seeks to provide financial support to deserving students to go through their tertiary education without any financial difficulty.
The beneficiaries were selected by the Scholarship Committee of Presbyterian University College, Ghana, chaired by its Vice President, Prof. Frank Arku, in collaboration with a team from Barclays Shared Growth Agenda.
Students had to meet required criterion which include Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.0.
It requires beneficiary students parents’ to have a household income below GHÈ»14,842.00 per annum.
The scholarship package, targeting strictly Ghanaian students from level 200 to 400, includes full payment of tuition fees, household income, laptop and food subsidy.
The package worth about GHȻ110,000.00 which is renewable for every academic year, also covers stationery, hostel and academic user fees.
Evans-Quaidoo Godrey, area manager, retail banking, Barclays Bank who led a team from the bank to present the scholarship stated that the gesture was part of the bank's cooperate social responsibility.
He explains that the bank has targeted a number of universities (both private and public) to give out the scholarship to needy but brilliant students.
President of the university, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng said the gesture will go a long way to motivate students to work harder to sustain the scholarship for the subsequent years.
According to him, there are students in similar situations who need such facilities.

Beneficiary students were drawn from various fields of study with special attention to the Sciences, Business Studies, Social Sciences and Engineering programmes.
