A Techiman Circuit Court has fined five drivers 1,620 Ghana cedis for various offences on the Techiman-Kumasi, Techiman-Wenchi and Techiman-Kintampo roads.
They pleaded guilty to charges of failing to produce driving license, failing to stop and driving without road worthy certificates and fire extinguishers.
Sulemana Latif and Emmanuel Sarpong were each fined 600 Ghana cedis or in default serve 12 months imprisonment for driving without license, failing to stop and carrying additional passengers.
Kofi Nsiah was fined 180 Ghana cedis or two months imprisonment for carrying seven passengers instead of three on his vehicle and driving without a fire extinguisher.
Gilbert Yeboah, was fined 120 Ghana cedis or serve two months imprisonment for failing to produce a driving license and Mohammed Adams who was fined 120 Ghana cedis or serve two months imprisonment for driving without a fire extinguisher, license and failing to stop.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Comfort Adubea Nyamesha told the court presided over by Mr Godwin Kwasi Kumah that during the morning of September 17, this year, a team of police personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit monitoring team on duty arrested the accused persons.
She said after investigations they were charged with the offences.
