Counsellor Perfect and Rev. Daniel Annan have urged couples to reflect on responsibility, sacrifice and sincerity in marriage during a discussion on Let’s Talk on Joy Prime.

The conversation, which explored whether love can fade or diminish in marriage, began with a case of a husband who feels his wife no longer loves him, but evolved into a wider reflection on what sustains relationships.

Counsellor Perfect challenged couples to pay closer attention to what they learn about each other before saying “I do”. She stressed that people must not only fall in love but also take time to understand the person they intend to marry.

According to her, “If you fear God, it is difficult to react” in certain hurtful ways, because the fear of God should influence how a person responds to their partner, particularly during difficult moments.

She also made a striking observation about women and relationships, saying, “Women are moved by what they can get, not what they can give.” Her point, however, went beyond material things.

Counsellor Perfect explained that when a woman is genuinely in love, her actions begin to reveal it. “A woman is in love when you begin to see that she does everything genuinely without complaining,” she said, pointing to sincerity and sacrifice as some of the clearest signs of genuine love.

For her, love is often revealed in quiet, consistent actions. She said when a woman truly loves her partner, sincerity and a willingness to make sacrifices become evident, not necessarily through grand gestures but through everyday care, support and contribution without keeping score.

Rev. Daniel Annan, however, brought another dimension to the discussion. He encouraged couples to examine their own contributions to the marriage instead of immediately concluding that their partner had stopped loving them.

His counsel centred on responsibility and reflection, reminding couples that what appears to be a disappearance of love may be linked to changes in behaviour, attention and effort within the marriage.

He urged couples to revisit the things they did when the relationship was still thriving and ask whether those efforts have disappeared. According to Rev. Annan, returning to those responsibilities and intentional actions could help couples rediscover what they have gradually lost.

The discussion became more emotional when callers shared personal experiences of love, disappointment and sacrifice, describing moments when they felt they were giving more than they were receiving.

At one point, host Asieduwaa Akumia became visibly emotional and teary as she listened to the stories, reflecting the depth of feeling expressed by callers. The atmosphere in the studio shifted from routine discussion to a deeply personal exchange.

Ultimately, the conversation underscored a central message: love must be demonstrated, not only declared. Counsellor Perfect emphasised sincerity and sacrifice, while Rev. Annan called for self-examination and a return to the habits that once strengthened relationships.

Together, their counsel suggested that before concluding that love has disappeared, couples should ask a difficult question: what have I stopped doing that I used to do when I was deeply in love? Sometimes, the way back to love begins with returning to the beginning.
