Workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) are threatening to embark on a sit-down strike for non-payment of their three months salary.
The workers say despite persistent appeals to the management to pay their salaries, they have been asked to wait until they sign their appointment letters first.
According to them, they will embark on a sit-down strike if they do not receive their salaries by Friday.
“The Authority informed us that they will be giving us our money on a monthly basis starting from May, but up until now, we have not received even a dime.
“It is very frustrating and to think that our boss said he does not know anything about it is unbelievable,” one of the staff told Joy News’ Efua Evans Chinnery.
The workers said they are surprised that their boss is denying knowledge of this treatment because the issue has received a lot of media attention in the last one month.
“He told the media is working on it, so why is he saying he does not know about it now?” one of the aggrieved staff said.
“We want the authorities to tell us exactly what is happening so we plan our lives,” another staff told the reporter.
Authorities at NIA are yet to comment on the development.
