The upcoming edition of Prime Insight on Joy Prime will focus on two major issues expected to dominate Ghana’s political conversation: President John Dramani Mahama’s latest ministerial reshuffle and renewed claims of threats to democratic governance.
The programme, scheduled for 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, will be hosted by Blessed Sogah and will feature Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications of the United Party; Julius Kwame Anthony, Press Secretary at the Ministry for the Interior; and Ross Osei Owusu, a member of the NPP Legal Directorate.

The first discussion will examine the changes in government, including the movement of Kenneth Gilbert Adjei and Ahmed Ibrahim, alongside the appointment of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to new ministerial responsibilities.
The reshuffle comes amid continued scrutiny of the performance of government ministries and the effectiveness of President Mahama’s administration. Kenneth Adjei, who previously headed the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, has been appointed Defence Minister, a move confirmed by the Presidency on Friday.
Mr Adjei had been responsible for key areas, including housing, water resources and infrastructure. His successor and the implications of the changes for government policy delivery are expected to feature prominently in the discussion.
The programme will also consider the political calculations behind the changes and whether the reshuffle is intended primarily to improve performance, strengthen political coordination or reposition the government ahead of the next phase of its administration.
The second major issue is the NPP's campaign against what it describes as threats to Ghana’s democratic freedoms, under the theme "Democracy Under Attack’ Demo: A March, A Petition, and What Next?”
The discussion follows earlier allegations by NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that Ghana’s democratic credentials and freedom of expression were under threat. He accused the government of using state security institutions to intimidate political opponents.
The NPP has previously staged demonstrations over alleged intimidation, arrests and what party officials described as the weaponisation of state institutions. During one such protest in Sunyani, demonstrators presented a petition calling for an end to what they described as a “culture of silence” and threats to fundamental freedoms.
Saturday’s Prime Insight is therefore expected to examine the substance of those allegations, the government's response and whether the protests and petitions can translate into concrete political or institutional action.
The programme will air on Joy Prime (DStv 281, GOtv 124, and Free-to-Air channel 102), with live engagement on @JoyPrimeTV across social media.
