The President of Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Ing. Steve Amoaning- Yankson, has sworn-in 112 new Engineers at a colourful ceremony at the Engineers Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra, on Thursday, August 23, 2018.

The 112 Inductees were made up of 17 Chemical/Mining Technical Division, 18 Civil Technical Division, 59 Electrical/Electronic Technical Division and 18 Mechanical/Agric/Marine Technical Division.

Inducting the new Engineers, Ing. Amoaning told the graduands to serve their communities wholeheartedly in order to contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life of their fellow Ghanaians.

“As Engineers, key areas of interventions include the development of water supply, power supply, health infrastructure, sanitation service delivery, transport and communications, education infrastructure, housing and other infrastructure needed to promote the growth of the Ghanaian economy”, Ing. Amoaning-Yankson said.

He, therefore, advised the new Engineers to eschew the “get rich quick” attitude using very subtle technical means as well as expecting and receiving gifts for doing their professional jobs.

The Immediate Past President (IPP) of the GhIE, Ing. Mrs. Carlien Bou-Chedid advised the new Engineers to enter the Engineering Profession as Role Models and take their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) seriously and take every opportunity to upgrade themselves through evening lectures, formal courses and other forms which has now become a requirement in the law guiding the Engineering practice in the country.

In his closing remarks the Executive Director of the GhIE, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong admonished the Inductees to remain true to the Engineering Oath that they have sworn adding that the Institution will ensure that the standards, regulations and guidelines for engineering practice in the country are strictly enforced. Ing.

Agyepong warned that the GhIE would not hesitate to investigate cases of unethical conduct and penalize any member who falls foul of the GhIE Code of Ethics.
