The chairman of the Education Select Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Nadowli East constituency, Matthias Puozaa has mocked at the free Senior High School campaign promise the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is propagating, saying the National democratic congress (NDC) government will not sacrifice quality for political expediency.
Speaking at the launch of his campaign for third term in Parliament at Daffiama in the Upper West Region, Mr. Puozaa stated that the NDC government does not frown on free education but will make everybody get it at the right time.
Mr. Puozaa said the NDC government is the only government that is bent on bringing equitable and accessible educational facilities to every part of this country.
"We will not rush to provide free education; we know the cost and what it takes to provide free education and we are not going to sacrifice quality on the altar of political expediency. We love Ghana so much and we know that the future of this country depends on the youth and it is therefore incumbent on us to do the right thing and at the right time", he added.
The Nadowli East MP said since he was voted to represent the people in Parliament he had worked assiduously to improve the lives of the people.
“We have been able to work to remove all schools under trees in the region; guinea worm disease which was the order of the day is now a thing of the past as we have provided sea of boreholes for you and it is our believe that based on the aforementioned you will vote to retain my brother John Mahama as president and me as your MP.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu Sulemani stated the region benefited a lot from the government and the party over the years has kept faith with the people of the region.
"Our party over the years has been the NDC all these years and we had a lot of tremendous improvement on the lives of the people in physical infrastructure by association with the NDC. I want to urge all and sundry to keep faith with the party as we go to the December polls.”
He advised the people to leave all bickering aside, close their ranks and work hard in order for the party to win the general elections.
Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Kale said this year’s elections will determine the destiny of the constituency, region and the country at large.
Mr. Kale said the government has brought up to speed development in the Upper West Region at par with the rest of the country in terms of the sharing of the national cake.
"We must all be careful so that politicians will not gamble our future through juicy promises that cannot be fulfilled. If you look at all the presidential candidates, President John Mahama stands tall because he has gone through thorough apprenticeship and he has shown it the last few months of his leadership of the country."
