Fifteen people sustained various degrees of injury and are receiving treatment at Saboba Medical Centre after a tractor conveying them to Progressive People’s Party’s rally was involved in an accident on Monday.
Among the victims were pregnant women and children.
Three of the victims whose conditions were said to be critical, were immediately taken to Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Philemon Nakoja, a senior nurse in the area who witnessed the accident, told Joy Fm’s partner station, Radio A1 in Bolgatanga, the people were being conveyed from Samboli, to Saboba where the PPP Flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum was expected to address a rally as part of his campaign tour of the Saboba constituency of the Northern region.
He said the driver apparently lost control of the steering wheel while making a curve and “threw the passengers out” upon reaching the township.
He said the PPP flagbearer later visited the injured and wished them speedy recovery to continue the campaign of making the party cause a major stir in the elections.
